The federation of trade unions in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area of Jiangsu province had a training conference on salary negotiation for the trade unions of 220 local companies on Oct 22, aiming to help them better protect employees' basic rights such as salaries and welfare.

Some representatives shared their experience that fewer employees quit their employment when they have higher wages and better working and living environments resulting from negotiations. Experts at the conference emphasized the importance of promoting salary negotiations and introduced negotiation skills. Some participants said the conference helped them understand that negotiating is a win-win for both companies and employees.

Thanks to the area's continuous efforts, more than 95 percent of local enterprises now will have such negotiations to ensure that their staff get fair salaries.
