On the morning of Dec 15, Xie Xiaojun, secretary of the Party committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Office of Veterans Affairs, carried out an important task.

He visited a project called the Double Support Demonstration Street in Xinghu Block, located in the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area – or the NETDA -- in Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province, officials said.

The double support refers to support for veterans from traditional pensions and preferential treatment, to the practice of supporting the military and their families.

It ranges from the placement of ex-servicemen in employment to the service and management of servicemen throughout their lives, to the development of an honors system for servicemen and their families, among other things.

Xie spoke highly of the establishment of the project and proposed to further strengthen the integration of double support with local community developments, creating a friendly and helpful atmosphere and improving the overall cultural levels of the NETDA.

  • The NETDA Free Trade Zone got the original go-ahead, on Jan 3, 2013, from the State Council, for a 5.29-sq-km area, in two parts.
