The Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area – located in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province -- held a charitable donation ceremony on Jan 26 for key local enterprises and at the NETDA event a group of 37 organizations pledged more than 70 million yuan ($10.8 million).
The Luolai Charity Fund was established at the event by Luolai Lifestyle Technology Co Ltd – a company originally called Luolai Home Textile Co Ltd. It liaised with supply chain enterprises to found the public welfare charity fund, with their employees volunteering to participate in its operation.
Moving forwards, the annual donations and fundraising for the Luolai Charity Fund is expected to total at least 8 million yuan, part of which will be used for the continued funding of existing projects, while the balance will be channeled to new projects urgently needed by the society.
In recent years, while ramping up its high-quality economic and social development, the NETDA has also adhered to a people-centered approach, actively coordinating all kinds of resources and extensively undertaking charity ventures.
That has translated into a sense of gain and contentment for grass-roots local people. In addition to the recent major corporate donation event, there have also been a number of one-time pledges coming from enterprises, which are expected to increase the total amount of donations over the next five years.
The NETDA Free Trade Zone got the original go-ahead, on Jan 3, 2013, from the State Council, for a 5.29-sq-km area, in two parts.
