The first phase of a factory being built in the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area by Japanese high-end diaper manufacturer Goon – which cost 1.6 billion yuan ($248 million) -- was completed and began trial production, according to local media on Feb 3.

The full NETDA project plans to establish 13 production lines for household paper production. Currently, the company has started up two wet wipes production lines and one paper tissue production line in the development area – in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province -- with an annual output of 54 million packs of wet wipes and an annual output of 3,600 tons of household tissue paper.

The annual output value will be increased by 200 million yuan when the trial period ends and the plant ramps up to full output in phase one, while the annual total tax revenue is expected to reach roughly 15 million yuan.

The products from Goon are widely praised for their high quality and safety. In addition to overseas factories in China, there are also factories in Thailand and Indonesia.

As a unit company of Goon in China, Goon (Nantong) Daily Supplies Co Ltd said it will work together with its Japanese parent to bring the same high-quality goods and services from Japan to every consumer in China.

  • The NETDA Free Trade Zone got the original go-ahead, on Jan 3, 2013, from the State Council, for a 5.29-sq-km area, in two parts.
