The Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area or NETDA – situated in Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – recently made further moves to ensure the security and safety of production by its resident manufacturers.
It carried out a 100-day program of monitoring and other actions, from the end of December 2020 to the end of March this year, handling production safety problems and regulating workshop production that was in violation of safety regulations, according to local media reports.
The area organized 215 work safety education programs, with more than 5,000 employees from resident businesses participating.
In the course of inspections and rectification actions, law enforcement inspections and fines were intensified through a combination of scheduled and random visits by experts, officials and safety enforcement officers. In the process, 2,477 enterprises were inspected and 4,058 potential dangers were identified, with formal requests issued for them to be corrected.
In a health and safety report of manufacturers, some 221 were urged to complete their first risk report through the Jiangsu province risk reporting system – resulting in 809 major production risks being investigated and reported.
In addition, more than 300 enterprises were investigated and prosecuted for work safety violations, with total penalties levied of nearly 1.3 million yuan ($198,922) and three companies were ordered to stop production in order to make necessary improvements.
The NETDA Free Trade Zone got the original go-ahead, on Jan 3, 2013, from the State Council, for a 5.29-sq-km area, in two parts.
