A lawyer from Wuxi in Jiangsu province has launched an app to help track down lawyers for real time legal service.
The app, named ‘ilvdo’, was created by Jin Wekai and now boasts around 2.1 million users, making it the largest real time legal service platform in China. The app has attracted one twentieth of lawyers in China to sign up and one fifth of the total number of lawyers in Wuxi.
Jin broke his leg in May of 2012 and dreamt up the idea of creating an online platform for real time legal service when he was lying in bed. He noticed the pattern of senior lawyers being more interested in high income litigation practices and junior lawyers being passionate to take on simple cases, yet lacking the resources to find such cases.
Prior to the launch of the ‘ilvdo’ mobile app, Jin placed his ‘Law King’ legal service platform on the taobao C2C website in December, 2012. The platform helped match cases with lawyers and provided standard legal services at an affordable price. One lady, surnamed Zhu, was quoted up to 800 yuan ($129) per hour for legal consultation from one lawyer before finding the app. Through ‘Law King’, Zhu spent just 8 yuan as counseling fees and 200 yuan to have a legal document written.
Jin and his team added to the ‘Law King’ platform by creating the “ilvdo” mobile app, which won the second place in the Jiangsu section of the China Youth App Contest in May. It will compete in the national final in June.
