Representatives from 17 medium-sized cities discussed sports and national fitness in Wuxi on Sep 11, reported the Jiangnan Evening Paper.
Currently, Wuxi has over 4,300 firms involved in sports. Among them, 37 businesses' sales topped 5 million yuan ($785,115) and 25 businesses' sales topped 10 million yuan.
The industry's annual added value has already reached 8.5 billion yuan, accounting for 1.12 percent of Wuxi's GDP.
The sports industry in Wuxi covers manufacturing, venue services, training, performances and competitions.
Meanwhile, the industry is evolving in a healthy manner. Thirteen companies have settled in Wuxi and more than ten will settle in the sports industrial park, which is still under construction.
Wuxi will cultivate the sports market and hold brand competitions to gear up the industry, said the city's sports bureau.
