Jiangyin-based Xingcheng Special Steel Works Co has contributed to a 395-meter skyscraper in the Hudson Yards, Manhattan, US, according to the Wuxi Daily.
Hudson Yards is the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States and the largest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center. When completed in 2024, 125,000 people a day will work in, visit, or call Hudson Yards their home. It is reported that the 395-meter super high-rise all-steel structure will be the fourth tallest building in New York.
The special steel company stood out from other tenderers by virtue of its advantages in technology, production, supply and quality.
It repeatedly improved manufacturing techniques to meet the designer's demands in steel plates' yield strength, low-temperature impact properties, glancing flatness and thickness.
As of this May, Xingcheng had provided over 30,000 tons of steel plates for the project. It is the only company in China able to supply large quantities of such high standard steel plates.
"It is Xingcheng's first bulk order from the US," a director told reporters and attributed the deal to the products' excellent qualities.
The company also supplied steel to Dubai’s Jeddah Tower and the Tencent Building in Beijing.
The director said that Xingcheng is striving to expand overseas markets, from which is derives about 20 percent of its total income.
The company pumps 1 billion yuan ($152.3 million), or 5 percent of its yearly sales revenue, into technical research and development.
Independent innovation has given a huge market and competitive edge to the special steel company.
People’s Daily said about Xingcheng on May 29: "The company has the largest market share for bearing steel and the largest economic benefit from pure steel in China, owing to technical innovation. The demand for its special steel exceeds the supply."
Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel Works Co, affiliated with CITIC Pacific Special Steel Group, is a National Torch Program Key High-tech Enterprise.
