Wuxi Railway Station announced on June 6 that it will add 17 extra train services from June 8 to 11 to cope with the increasing travel demand during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, Wuxi Daily reported.
According to the Wuxi rail department, six trains will be added in its South Square, five will be added in the North Square, and the remaining six will be added in the Wuxi East Railway Station. The extra trains are mainly heading to neighboring cities such as Xuzhou, Bengbu, Hefei, Nanjing and Shanghai.
The railway station is estimated to carry 275,000 passengers during the holiday period, which lasts from June 8 to 11 this year, a 5.27 percent year-on-year increase compared with passenger volume of 261,200 last year.
One official from the railway station said that the passengers are mostly medium- and short-distance travelers, and their number is expected to reach 241,500, 87.82 percent of the total. The travel peak is expected to be on June 9 with 75,000 passengers.
The official also reminded passengers to take heed of the railroad announcement, schedule travel plans in advance and budget time for security checks during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
