Wuxi's public transportation network has become considerably cleaner after the 51 pure electric buses were rolled into services along several routes across the city recently.
The buses will help contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions coming from Wuxi's roads and offer passengers a quieter and more comfortable ride.
Running along five of the city's busiest routes (33, 135, 5, 358, and 503), each bus carries 10 battery cells which take three to four hours to fully charge. The buses have a range of 200 kilometers when the air conditioning is on, more than enough for a full day of service.
A representative of Wuxi Bus Company said that more new energy vehicles and hybrid buses will be introduced into the public transport network, replacing all diesel buses in the future.
A 5,000-square-meter charging station located at the Taihu New District has been put into service as well. The station has 64 charging piles where two buses can charge simultaneously.
