The peninsula, known in Chinese as Yuantouzhu, is famous for its stunning scenery and views of Lake Tai and receives more than 2.5 million visitors each year. It is a national 5A-level tourist attraction in China, the highest possible rating.
The scenic area marked its centennial with a series of performances based around the theme of Lake Tai, which reviewed some of the memorable events that have occurred during the past 100 years.
This included renditions of classic Chinese songs such as Beautiful Lake Tai (Taihumei), sung by Cheng Guilan, and a recital of Lake Tai Sentiments (Taihuqingyun) performed on the erhu, a traditional Chinese two-stringed instrument, by Deng Jiandong.
Visitors and travel agents from all over the world also sent video clips congratulating the scenic area and expressing their best wishes for site's future development. A raft of new construction projects were also announced during the celebrations, as Turtle Head Isle plans its next stage of development during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.
New facilities to be built include a cherry blossom villa, a paleontology museum and facilities for water-based activities.
There are also plans for a new restaurant allowing visitors to relish traditional Taihu specialty cuisine while enjoying the captivating lake views.
