A team of doctors from Wuxi finally returned home on Jan 16 after spending 19 months providing medical assistance in Zanzibar, the semi-autonomous region in East Africa.
A ceremony was held to welcome the doctors, who became the 26th medical team from Jiangsu province to head to Zanzibar when they left Wuxi in June 2015. The doctors' two-year overseas medical mission was independently organized by Wuxi municipal government.
This is the first time the doctors have returned to Wuxi since they started their tour in Zanzibar. Xu Zhuoqun, the team leader, said during the ceremony that all the teammates were very excited to come home and reunite with their families before the Spring Festival holiday.
Their home leave will last to Feb 13, when they will head back to Zanzibar again. Their mission will come to an end in June.
