Representatives from Wuxi recently held in-depth discussions about the city's industry during Jiangsu's provincial National People's Congress (NPC) and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in the province's capital of Nanjing, Wuxi Daily reported.

Here is what they had to say about the development of Wuxi's industry.

"The 2017 World Internet of Things Exposition is in preparation."

Last year, the World Internet of Things Exposition held in Nov 2016 made Wuxi stand out on the global stage.

Wuxi's IoT industry has been developing for over seven years since the World SensingNet Group first set up in the city to become the IoT center of China. To date, Wuxi's IoT industry's output has reached 150 billion yuan ($21.8 billion) with nearly 2,000 IoT companies producing applications from smart healthcare to IoT-based greenhouses. The city is expected to nurture more promising enterprises by combining IoT technology with its strengths in manufacturing, according to Gao.

"Traditional industrial structure upgrades promote the optimization of state-owned enterprises."

Most of Wuxi’s state-owned enterprises suffered a sluggish period without areas of new growth in recent years, according to Jiang. He added that these enterprises should pay more attention to the incubation of emerging industries and to the upgrades of traditional sectors.

Jiang is also the board chairman of the state-owned Wuxi Industry Development Group. With 14 holding companies, the group’s sales volume reached 17.2 billion yuan in 2016, a year-on-year growth of 7 percent. "Jiangsu has paid more attention to the quality of industry rather than the quantity", said Jiang.
