The First Session of the 14th Wuxi Municipal committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held in the city of Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on Feb 13.
More than 400 CPPCC Wuxi committee members from all walks of life gathered at the meeting hall to make suggestions and enter into dialogue. Wuxi hopes to grow further into a city with a strong economy, rich and diverse population, beautiful environment, and a highly civilized society.

As the four-day session kicked off to the rousing sounds of the Chinese national anthem, Wuxi's Party secretary, Li Xiaomin, delivered his keynote speech. Li gave credit to the achievements Wuxi has made in the past year, ones which have laid a solid foundation for future development during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020).
Li greatly prioritized innovation, a word that turned up 28 times in the speech. He vowed to make innovation the most distinctive characteristic of Wuxi. The Party secretary also emphasized the importance of upgrading industry, protecting the environment, continuing reform, and improving the livelihood of citizens.

Zhou Minwei, chairman of the 13th Wuxi committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), reviewed the work that the committee has achieved over the past five years. Under the leadership of Wuxi Municipal Party committee, the CPPCC Wuxi committee has focused on unity and democracy and has made remarkable contributions to promoting the economy and generating social stability.
Zhou added that the next five years serve as a critical step for Wuxi to build a harmonious and prosperous society. He urged the new CPPCC Wuxi committee to be selected promptly and to take full responsibility for pushing the city's development forward.
While the staff of CPPCC Wuxi committee may change every five years, the responsibilities of improving social unity and prosperity remain the same.
