The two studios will share film resources, exchange film technology and talent, and cooperate on film projects. Through the exciting joint endeavor, it is hoped the studios will achieve a global reputation for excellence.

The first seeds of the budding relationship were sown in December 2016 when Charlie Woebcken, CEO of Babelsberg Studio, attended a film and culture investment summit in Wuxi. During the visit, the German film producer held preliminary talks with Wuxi Studios, sometimes labeled as China's Hollywood.

Following initial conversations, representatives of both studios actively sought further cooperation in an attempt to increase Chinese and German cultural exchange. It is hoped the agreement will lead to the creation of many exciting new projects that exhibit the particular flairs of Chinese and German cinema and culture.

First established in 1912, Babelsberg Studio was the world's largest film studio prior to World War II (1939-1945). The time-honored studio has produced nearly 3,500 films in its history, including classics such 1927's Metropolis and The Pianist in 2002. In the past 15 years, the studio has won an impressive 48 Oscar nominations.
