Nearly 600 of Asia's top ping-pong players, judges and tournament officials will head to Wuxi, Jiangsu province, for the upcoming 23rd ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships on April 9-16, the tournament organizers announced during a press conference in Wuxi's Binhu district on Mar 29.
China will be sending out its strongest team at the tournament, which is Asia's highest-level table tennis contest and also the qualifying competition for this year's World Table Tennis Championships.
Sixteen of China's top players including world champions Zhang Jike, Ma Long, and Liu Shiwen will be competing in Wuxi, where they will battle rivals from 29 different Asian countries and territories.
During the conference, the gold, silver and bronze medals for the event were also unveiled, which are inlaid with gold and jade from Longling county in Yunnan province.
