A volunteer delegation from Taiwan paid a visit to Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province on June 6.
Headed by New Taipei City Councilman Qiu Fengyao, the delegation was composed of more than 50 volunteers from the city's Zhonghe district.
The group attended a seminar about cross-Straits voluntary services in Wuxi's Junlai Liangxi Hotel during their visit.
Zhang Wei, deputy director of Jiangsu Provincial Office of Taiwan Affairs, addressed the seminar.
Jiangsu is seeing a rapid increase in volunteering as it actively promotes the development of public welfare, according to Zhang.
The seminar gave Jiangsu and Taiwan the opportunity to explore establishing a regular communication channel between grassroots volunteers in both places, he added.
Wuxi, as an economically strong city in Jiangsu, has maintained a close economic relationship with Taiwan, according to the deputy director, and he expressed the hope that the two sides could develop even closer ties in the future.
Shang Ming, deputy director of Wuxi municipal department of publicity, also spoke at the event, giving a specific introduction to Wuxi's progress in developing voluntary services.
Several representatives of cross-Straits volunteering organizations also gave speeches during the seminar.
The activity, sponsored by the Wuxi Municipal Office of Taiwan Affairs, aims to establish a platform to further communication and exchanges between volunteers on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
