Wuxi city in East China's Jiangsu province signed a cooperation memorandum with Dunedin, New Zealand on Nov 7 to enhance the friendship between the peoples of the two cities.
Dunedin is the second-largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and the principal city of the Otago region. The city has a diverse economy, which includes manufacturing, publishing and technology-based industries as well as education, research and tourism.
The city's most important activities center around tertiary education. Dunedin is home to the University of Otago, New Zealand's oldest university, which was established 1869. The University of Otago and Jiangnan University in Wuxi signed agreements to cooperate on food speciality in 2017.
Huang Qin, acting mayor of Wuxi, welcomed the delegation led by Dave Cull, mayor of Dunedin and introduced that the total value of import and exports in Wuxi reached $81.25 billion in 2017, with over 7,000 foreign enterprises developing there.
"The country will support integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, and make it a national strategy. Wuxi is willing to cooperate with Dunedin for further opening-up."
The two cities will maintain long-term contact and consultation, strengthening the exchange and cooperation on economy, trade and culture.
