Wuxi opera is the only local opera with children taking part. During the about one-minute performance, students with an average age of eight blew the audience away with their songs and voices.
Wuxi Yangjian Primary School has included Wuxi Opera in its school-based curriculum for years. In 2010, it was listed as one of the first nationally-recognized cultural schools in the country and has been invited to participate in a number of CCTV programs.
Yangjian town, the birthplace of Wuxi Opera, is considered to be the hometown of folk art in Jiangsu province by the provincial department of culture.
