An economic and trade delegation from Wuxi, Jiangsu province, headed by the city mayor Wang Quan, visited Australia May 20-23 to hold talks on mutual trade and business, the Wuxi Daily reported.
The delegation held a promotion meeting in Melbourne, the state of Victoria, on May 21, attended by officials at the Chinese Consulate in Melbourne, city mayor Robert Doyle, and more than 100 Australian entrepreneurs and commercial officers.
Wang addressed the attendants about the Wuxi's local industries and economy and called for increasing both governmental and non-governmental ties between Wuxi and Australia in a number of fields, including economy, business, trade, tourism and culture.
Wuxi is currently promoting the transformation of open economy by developing manufacturing and modern service industries and attracting professional people, mayor Wang underlined. He hoped both sides could deepen cooperation in economy, tourism and culture, and build a mutually beneficial partnership.
The delegation signed a cooperation agreement with the Goodman Group, Australia's leading real estate company, at the meeting. The group will build an industrial logistics park in Wuxi with an expected total investment of nearly $100 million.
The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
