Wuxi filmmakers attend Shanghai International Film Festival

A string of film making companies from Wuxi Studios, a digital film industrial park, attended the Film Market of the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) on June 12, Wuxi Daily reported.
More than 500 exhibitors from home and abroad participated in the fair in the 22,000-square-meter exhibition hall, including Wuxi-based Nova Film.
Nova showcased its digital virtual character system, the first 3-D scanning platform of its kind in China, which consists of more than 30 cameras and over 100 LED lights. It can be used to scan an actor's face and whole body for large-scale scenes, stage property and objects which are difficult to move and need shooting on-site. "The actors don’t need be shot on-site and only to be in the scanning platform," said a Nova staff member.
Besides Nova other Wuxi-based film companies attending the fair, including Century Motion Picture & Dist. Co and Long Media.
As one of the most prestigious film fairs in the country, the SIFF Film Market hosts a wide range of companies from the film industry, covering areas of financing, production, post-production, sound and visual effects, distribution, marketing, legal services, and games.
The 19th Shanghai International Film Festival runs from June 11 to 19. It has become a key financing market for films in Asia. This year marks the 10th year since the establishment of "Film Project Venture" which has led to the production of 40 films, including the Silver Bear-winning Black Coal, Thin Ice, Twelve Citizens, The Piano in a Factory and Master.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
