Wang Jinjian, deputy mayor of Wuxi, met with a delegation from American machinery giant Caterpillar, headed by Gwenne A. Henricks, the company's chief technology officer, on July 27, to discuss further collaboration, Wuxi Daily reported.
Wang extended his welcome to the delegation and spoke highly of the many investments caterpillar has made in Wuxi over the past 10 years. He also spoke of his optimism that the two sides would continue to work together for many years to come.
Caterpillar first established a machinery components division in Wuxi in 2005, followed by an R&D center in the same year. They were quickly followed by the establishment of Perkins Engines and Perkins Power Systems in 2007 and 2009, respectively.
Henricks said that the Caterpillar Wuxi R&D center is its second largest R&D center in the world with more than 900 staff, including 30 foreign experts, and capable of fulfilling the demands of researches and tests from its branches in Asia-Pacific region. She reinforced the company's determination to conduct its localization strategy to improve its Wuxi subsidiaries' profitability.
The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
