Li Xiaomin, top official in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, met with a delegation from the South Korean conglomerate SK Group on Nov 30, headed by the Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Wuxi Daily reported.
Welcoming the delegation, Li expressed he was glad to meet the SK delegation this year, and reemphasized that SK Group is a crucial strategic cooperation partner of the city.
Li reviewed the city's cooperation with SK Group and related achievements, also expressing his hope that this win-win cooperation will continue to bring in more benefits for both parties.
Since SK Hynix's first settlement in 2005, SK Group added investments three times in the Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND). It has consolidated a leading position in the semiconductor market in China, and maintained stable growth in capital, technology, profits and productivity.
Wuxi is determined to develop emerging information technology and intelligent manufacturing to help the industry transform and upgrade, which requires information technology support from SK Group.
Li pledged to provide continuous support for SK Group’s semiconductor development and create a sound industrial environment for further expansion of SK Group investments in the city.
Chey expressed his gratitude for the help and support SK Group has received from the Wuxi government during its development in the city. SK Group’s investment in Wuxi is influential to the whole group's development, and SK Group is planning to develop a second branch, like SK Hynix, to further its cooperation with the city.
SK Group, whose main businesses include energy and chemicals, information and telecommunications, as well as trade and services, acquired Hynix in 2011. Hynix is one of the world's largest chip makers with plants in Icheon, Cheongju in South Korea and Wuxi.
The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
