Hutong Railway is a key project of China’s development strategy of Jiangsu coastal areas. There are two stations in Zhangjiagang, including the Zhangjiagang Railway Station in Tangqiao and Zhangjiagang North Railway Station in Nanfeng. They cover a total length of 30 km inside Zhangjiagang. As an important part of the Hutong Railway, the Hutong Railway Yangtze River Bridge is a rail-road bridge across the Yangtze River, located downstream of the Yangtze River along the Chengtong River. It is designed to be 11 km long, extending from Nantong Fishing Port in the north to Zhangjiagang Shisanyu in the south. The unique cable-stayed design of the main channel will make the bridge the world's longest cable-stayed rail-road bridge after construction. The bridge is divided into two levels. The upper level is a six-lane highway with a designed speed of 100 km per hour. The lower level is a four-line railway, including two lines of the Hutong Railway with a speed of 200 km per hour and two others for the inter-city railway with a speed of 250 km per hour.

In April this year, railway construction designs began after a preliminary design was reviewed. In early June, the field investigation of the Hutong Railway Yangtze River Bridge was completed successfully, providing an important basis for construction design. In the middle of this month, construction drawings were successfully finished.

The construction of the Hutong Railway will not only be the city's first railway, but will also transform the city into a major transportation hub for coastal development and link across the Yangtze River, playing a better role in connecting south with north and linking east with west.
