A total of 20,200 tons of soybeans worth $130 million were imported at Zhangjiagang ports in October, an increase of 29.5 percent and 32.7 percent, respectively, from the same period last year and 11 percent and 18.2 percent, respectively, from last month, according to statistics from the Zhangjiagang entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau.
More than 2 million tons of soybeans on average are imported annually at Zhangjiagang ports in recent years from countries and regions such as the US, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
In the first half of the year, imports were affected by bird flu. Imports in the second half rebounded as the bird flu disappeared.
