The city of Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu province has carried out a series of volunteer activities for migrant workers during Spring Festival to help them feel at home.
Since it is hard for migrant workers to buy tickets home during Spring Festival, the city has provided seven free bus lines in and out of the province, escorting 500 workers back to their hometowns. Any migrant worker can apply for the service, which is officially themed “taking parents to Zhangjiagang for a Spring Festival reunion.” The selected workers will be able to freely get their parents visit Zhangjiagang for family reunion during the New Year.
On Jan 25, a family banquet for Spring Festival was held in Zhangjiagang. More than 200 migrant workers got together for dinner, enjoying art performances and receiving presents. The activities provided an opportunity for migrant workers to communicate with each other and feel at home.
In addition, the city’s youth volunteers also brought warmth to students at migrant children schools by sending them 2,000 tubes of frostbite cream with the money raised through charity sales.
