The landscaping and design were recently approved for Huangsipu Ecological Park in Zhangjiagang, a soon-to-be ecological paradise for local residents.
As part of Zhangjiagang's 10 environmentally friendly projects, the park's 17.7 square kilometers will be dedicated to protected relics, conservationism and leisure. Situated between the towns of Yangshe and Tangqiao, it will consist of two scenic areas separated by the Xizhang (Wuxi-Zhangjiagang) Expressway.
Plans to build a man-made lake and restore native ecology are in the works. The percent of green parkland is expected to reach over 90, thus creating a "green lung" for the city.
In addition, project managers will encourage recycling and the reuse of waste throughout the park's construction. Accordingly, the soil displaced from the construction of the lake— more than 5 million cubic meters—will be used to construct hills for the park, thus saving the 100-plus million yuan ($24.33 million) it would cost to transport the soil elsewhere.
