First Yangtze River Folk Art Expo opens

The first China (Zhangjiagang) Yangtze River Folk Art Expo kicked off in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, on Nov 14 as part of the 2014 Yangtze River Culture and Art Festival.
The focus of the three-day expo was the folk boutique exhibition, with more than 10,000 folk crafts from the Yangtze River areas on display and some culture inheritors demonstrating their unique workmanship.

The crafts included calligraphy and paintings, sculptures, masks of Nuo culture, totemic objects and works of ethnic groups.
On Nov 14, four experts in jade ware, ceramics, calligraphy and painting were invited to provide free antique appraisal service. An auction for 50 folk art items took place on Nov 15.

The expo also included a folk art development forum and set up the first Golden Chrysanthemum Award for folk art in Yangtze River areas.
The event was aimed at promoting Yangtze River culture and art, as well as facilitating the trade of folk crafts, according to Zhou Jun, organizer of the event.
