Shuangshan Island, a famous tourist resort in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, announced that it will increase the ticket prices of ferries, the only tool for visitors to reach the island, from the previous 2 yuan to 8 yuan ($1.30) for a round trip starting Dec 1. Visitor cars, e-vehicles and bicycles will also be prohibited into the island.

Each adult can take one child under 1.2 meters in height for free. Children between 1.2 and 1.5 meters and elderly people between the ages of 60 and 69 can enter for half-price, while residents older than 70 will be admitted free of charge.

Residents and working staff of the island are required to apply for unified e-passes, and visitors have to buy tickets to take the ferries. Meanwhile, visitor vehicles, including cars, e-vehicles and bicycles, are to be restricted on the island. Island residents and staff with cars can submit applications for pass cards.

However, the island will provide sightseeing e-vehicles costing 10 yuan per person, as well as bike rental services to facilitate tourist travel.

During the holidays, more than 1,000 vehicles would wait for the ferry, which was beyond the ferries' maximum carrying capability of 600 vehicles. The new measures aim to manage the tourist flow and protect the ecological environment of the island.
