The first free vegetarian restaurant in Zhangjiagang, Yu Hua Zhai, was opened in the city's downtown area on April 7.

On the opening day, the Jiangsu-based eatery received more than 300 diners, most of whom were elderly people from neighboring residential areas. According to Xiong Ni, the restaurant's founder, Yu Hua Zhai only offers free meals at lunchtime. The restaurant is funded by public donations and supported by over 100 volunteers who take turns serving as waiters and chefs.

Yu Hua Zhai is a famous vegetarian restaurant brand and has opened chain restaurants in more than 10 cities around the country with the hope of promoting charity and environmental protection.
