The city of Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province has seen its first women hematopoietic stem cell donor, Zhou Jing, a member staff at the city's Shazhou Hotel.
At 12 am on Jan 18, Zhou received the operation at Nanjing Zhongda Hospital, affiliated with Southeast University. After four hours, 108 milliliters of hematopoietic stem cell suspensions were successfully collected.
Zhou donated her stem cells to a patient from Hong Kong, becoming the city's 11th donor as well as the first women donator.
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is an efficient way to treat leukemia. There are around 400 million patients in China on the waiting list for the treatment every year.
