The city of Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu province will offer discounts in scenic areas on May 19 to celebrate China's National Tourism Day, according to the local tourism bureau.
Tickets for Jiangnan Agricultural Park will be priced at 20 yuan ($3), half of the regular price, not including the amusement park area. The park, a provincial four-star level tourist resort, has nine themed areas covering more than 300,000 square meters and receives 500,000 visitors annually.
Tickets for the Phoenix scenic spot will also be discounted to 20 yuan on the day, 33 percent off the standard price. Xiangshan, a scenic spot in Zhangjiagang city which features the Xiangshan historical cultural exhibition hall, cherry blossom garden, plum hill and Xiangshan Garden, will announce its discounts at a later date.
Visitors can also travel around Yonglian Jiangnan Agricultural Garden and Dongduyuan scenic spot in Zhangjiagang on May 19 at a discounted rate. Some travel agencies in the city will also offer special prices for traveling outside the city.
The Chinese government announced in 2011 that China's National Tourism Day will fall on May 19 each year to memorize Xu Xiake, a famous geographer and traveller at the time of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) who wrote travel books.
