In a bid to promote team spirit, competitiveness and physical fitness, a football tournament for middle school students studying in Suzhou and subordinate cities got underway in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, from April 15 to 19.
The Suzhou and Zhangjiagang bureaus of sports and education gave full support to the event, which ran smoothly.
The competition attracted the active participation of more than 600 teenagers from some 30 schools.
In all the 64 games played teenage boys and girls tried their utmost to win the prizes.
In the men's final which kicked off on April 19, the team of Zhangjiagang Liangfeng Secondary School converted a penalty kick to seal the victory over Suzhou Xuefu Middle School. The team from Suzhou Zhenwu Experimental School took third place.
Girls from Zhangjiagang also had remarkable results as two teams from the port city, Zhangjiagang Fenghuang Middle School and Zhangjiagang Liangfeng Secondary School, were ranked third and fourth respectively.
A cluster of prizes were awarded on the side-lines, including ones for sportsmanship, and best players, shooters, goalkeepers, coaches, and referees.
As a city keen on promoting youth football, Zhangjiagang was happy to play host to the event for the second time. The city will keep offering games in a distinctive style and contributing to the sound and steady development of local youth football.
