Zhangjiagang, a port city in eastern Jiangsu province, was shortlisted for the 2019 list of China's happiest cities, local media reported.
The list is sponsored by Oriental Outlook magazine and has been released for 12 consecutive years. More than 900 million residents across China have participated in the sampling survey, making it one of the most influential of its kind in the country.
Polling is currently being conducted in Beijing and looks at local residents' sense of identity, belonging, safety and satisfaction, as well as appraisals from non-residents. The final results will be released in November.
Zhangjiagang, a growing port city along the Yangtze River, has made remarkable strides in terms of economy, culture, finance, commerce and trade in recent years.
The city's GDP reached 272 billion yuan ($39.4 billion) by the end of 2018, a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent.
Its industries maintained healthy and steady growth. The total output value of industries above the designated scale in the city reached 479 billion yuan, making it one of China's top 100 industrial cities in 2018.
