Zhangjiagang in East China’s Jiangsu province has taken a series of measures to contain the spread of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
Officials have been urged to prioritize people’s security and health. All departments have been told to report accurate information and inform locals on how to protect themselves from the virus.
Nine local hospitals have set up fever clinics, with doctors and nurses staying at their posts to fight against the epidemic.
The local government has also been working to ensure adequate market supply and a stable price of commodities as it controls the novel coronavirus outbreak in the city.
Five expressways connecting Zhangjiagang and surrounding cities have been closed since Jan 27. The time when the service will be resumed is currently uncertain.
Local residents are advised to maintain personal hygiene by washing their hands frequently and wearing surgical masks when going out, as well as protect themselves from the new virus by cutting down outdoor activities and staying away from crowded places.
