To support red tourism drive and celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, China Red Tourism Exposition opened in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi province in the evening of July 1, 2011.
The expo kicked off with an hour-and-a-half-long red song concert performed by more than 3,000 singers, chorus members, actors, and co-hosted by CCTV's leading presenters Zhu Xun and Li Jiaming at Qiushui square . It also pulls in performers from other red tourism sites, such as the city of Chongqing, and Hunan, Guizhou and Shaanxi provinces.
A 60-meter-long, 20-meter-wide main arena has been built at the center of Qiushui square for the show with a 12-storey-high platform and three big LED screens as well as some 4,000 lights.
Expo organizers invited the team that arranged the fireworks display at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to coordinate fireworks at the ceremony, which drew an audience of 200 million.
Another part of the expo is a tourism arts and crafts design competition that is soliciting works with a theme relating to the 90th anniversary of the Communist Party, or "red history", or traditional culture.
Mainstream media such as the People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, and China Radio International cover the expo's main activities, and many online news portals provide a live broadcast of the opening ceremony.
14 provincial tourism administrations and 16 key red tourism sites participated in the event.
