Sanzhualun National Forest Park is a “natural oxygen bar”. |
Sanzhaolun is the only national demonstrative forest park and national AAAA-level tourist area in Jiangxi province. Located in Jing'an county, it is also the only native place of giant salamanders and a place abound in oranges and poets. It is 80 kilometers away from Nanchang city.
Sanzhaolun is situated to the east of Jiuling Mountains. The scenic region has a gross area of 193 square kilometers including 95.7 percent forest coverage. It comes out topping the country in this aspect, reputed as a green treasure house. The negative oxygen ion amounts to 100,000 per cubic meter, making the place a “natural oxygen bar”. The annual temperature averages 13.7-17.5 ℃.
The forest park has 93 national level scenic spots, 13 summits higher than 1,500 meters, and 100 summits higher than 1,000 meters. Jiulingjian Peak, the highest summit, is 1,794 meters high.

It has three animals under first class state protection. They are clouded leopards, panthera pardus, and syrmaticus ellioti. It has 28 animals under second class state protection, and 1,805 vascular plant species. It is home to the sightseeing base of Luowan underground power plant, which is for combat readiness.
Luowan underground power plant is one of the only two underground power plants for combat readiness in the country. Tourists will enjoy primitive forest drifting from the 100-meter stream fall, bamboo raft drifting, and high mountain water skiing.
There are also many tourism activities such as picking wild fruits, picking Chinese oranges, appreciating giant salamanders, climbing mountains for exploration, camping, taking part in a bonfire evening party, and enjoying barbecue of local flavors.
Drifting on bamboo rafts along the Beihe (North) River is one of the activities offered at the Sanzhualun National Forest. The river twists and turns through sheer cliffs and ancient camphor trees. You can bob over rapids and shoals, and through calm pools in a stimulating, but very safe, adventure.

Longpan Lake is in fact a reservoir where water gathers deep in the mountains. At the end of the lake is a deep canyon called Luya with sheer cliffs and jagged rocks on either side. From the cliffs, you can see a string of deep ponds lying at the canyon bottom reflecting dense woods in calm, greenish water.
In Luojiaping, at the heart of the forest, the mountains are even taller and the forests denser. There are more streams and on the bigger ones rubber dinghies are available to braver visitors.
Sanzhualun, a beautiful escape |
Scattered in the Luojiaping area are numerous and unique scenic spots. The Kwan-yin Rock is a huge rock towering into the sky. Waterfalls appear every 100 to 200 meters. Among them, the most interesting is Xiannuyu (Shower Taking Fairy), which is 30 meters high and three meters wide. Below it is a 1.7-metre-high natural rock in the shape of a naked young woman. Water falls exactly on the rock.

The Huxiao (Tiger Roaring) Gorge is a quiet and twisting gorge full of fascinating scenes. Precipices and overhanging rocks loom over the sheer banks. In the middle section, a rock shaped like a monkey's face almost seems ready to start calling to passers-by. Lower down, the Tiger Head Rock resembles a fierce tiger with a gaping mouth stretching towards the river.
In the valley, log cabins and bamboo huts are built for holidaymakers. Though rustic, they have all the necessary facilities.
