The Huang Tingjian Memorial, located at Xiushui county of Jiangxi province, is a museum in memory of Huang Tingjian, the founder of Jiangxi Poetry School and one of the four renowned calligraphers of the Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279). The site of the memorial used to be the Exhibition Room of Historical Relics of Xiushui county, Jiangxi province. It was opened to the public in November 1985.
It is believed that Nanshanya was the place where Huang Tingjian read books and strolled about. Even today, a few historical remains left by him can still be seen there, such as his handwriting Buddha and Diaoji(a rock projecting over the water for angling) engraved on the cliff and the climbing fig planted by him in addition to 100-odd tablets of his calligraphic inscriptions. In 1959, the memorial was listed as one of the historical sites under the protection of Jiangxi province.
