The scenic area is located 25 km to the north of Shangrao county. It has an area of about 160 square kilometers, 60 of which are frequented by tourists.
Lingshan Mountain is an area of erosion landform. The main peak is about 1,000—1,400 meters high and the cliffs are steep. Influenced by the maritime climate, its average temperature is approximately 15 ℃. Its annual rainfall exceeds 2,000 mm. It is rich in underground water and surface water resources. There are eight mountain streams and more than one hundred springs. The average annual sunshine hours are 1,939.5 hours. It has a subtropical humid monsoon climate. There are 204 species of trees, 12 varieties of bamboos and 221 kinds of herbs. It produces quality agricultural and forest products which sell across the country, such as tribute tea, tea oil, kiwi, dark mushroom, garlic, and handmade paper. There are more than 20 species of birds, 20 species of animals, 9 kinds of amphibians, and 30 kinds of insects.

The Lingshan region has formed a rich variety of minerals which can date back to 800 million years ago, including granite, fluorite, quartz, tungsten, tin, copper, lead, zinc, rare earths, phosphorus, barite, and coal. Granite, niobium, tantalum, and vanadium are rich reserves. The stones have been transported to places such as Shanghai and Hangzhou.
The spring on the top of the mountain never dries up. The quality of the spring water from Ling Spring and Guanjing Spring is the best, containing a number of minerals. They are also breeding places for rare fish. The spring water is sweet; it can also be used to treat heatstroke, inflammation, and eye disease. The flux of the Pearl Spring has the maximum flow, which can reach 540 tons per hour.

Lingshan Mountain is a holy place for both Buddhism and Taoism, attracting many tourists.
Lingshan Mountain has rich medical resources. There are more than 200 varieties of Chinese herbs, among which ganoderma lucidum, dark mushroom, stone tea, fleece-flower root, and poria are the most precious ones.
The terrace of Lingshan does not only produce quality rice for locals, but also makes a brilliant landscape. Many painters, photographers, and poets have used it as a theme and have created an abundant of art work centered on its backdrop.
People in Lingshan area began to plant tea at the beginning of the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Lingshan Tea is known for its high quality and good taste, especially Tiantang Tea produced along Shiren Peak. It was once a tribute to the imperial court. There are camellia forests almost everywhere in Lingshan. Known as the oil house in northeast Jiangxi, more than five million kilos of quality tea oil is produced in the thousands of hectares of camellia forests each year.
