Tanxia honored as national ecological culture village

Tanxia village of Wentang town, Jiangxi province, is on the list to win an honorary title after China Ecological Culture Association unveiled the result of a public appraisal for the fourth round of “national ecological culture villages” recently.
Tanxia village, located at the foot of Mingyue Mountain, a national forest park, has 826 residents. It has 38,600 mu (2,573 hectares) forest, mainly covered in bamboo trees. The area produces an annual output 200,000 bamboo trees. The village is also home to rare species such as Chinese yews, a plant under national protection, and fallen-leave manglietia, reputed as living fossils. The forest coverage rate is 93 percent over the region.
In recent years, the village has relied on its competitive ecological resources, and has done a good job in protecting the ecology and boosting its forest economy. It has adhered to boosting its economy with tourism services. It has established businesses closely associated with tourism and recreational industries. They include characteristic farmer household-based services, and selling of native chickens and edible wild herb dishes. The area holds many activities every year, including the self-help fruit-picking festivals, and ecological sightseeing. The village has established a rural tourism industrial mode that joins companies, cooperatives, tourism bases and farmer households together. Under the direction of the administration committee of Mingyue Mountain scenic spot, Tanxia village has stepped out of deep mountains and has become a tourist spot.
Tanxia village is known for its beautiful sceneries. It was named by Jiangxi provincial government as a tourism demonstration village. It as listed by Yichun municipal government as a demonstration base with high bamboo yields at the 6th National Bamboo Culture Festival. It has been established as an environment education base by Mingyue mountain scenic spot administration committee.
