On Jan 16, 2012, the 2012 National Tourism Supervision Working Conference was held in Nanchang, Jiangxi province. The conference proposed that in the coming year, the national tourism supervision should continue to focus on the improvement of tourist service quality, standardize tourist market order and strengthen tourist market supervision.
Du Jiang, deputy director of the National Tourism Administration of the People's Republic of China conveyed the details that Vice-Premier Wang Qishan outlined.
In 2011, the tourism industry attached great importance to the tourist service quality and the market order supervision, said Du. The year 2011 saw an increase in efforts for enhanced service ability in tourist supervision. It achieved the goal of creating a promising beginning for the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).
However, there still exists a huge gap between the tourist service quality and the tourists' demands. No fundamental change in the tourist market has been recognized and the business environment for tourism enterprises needs to be further improved.
He said the key goal of the tourism supervision in 2012 is to further improve service quality and standardize tourist market order. The supervision authorities will work out the Tourism Quality Development Plan. This will enlarge standardization pilots, carry out standardization demonstrations and draw up national and industrial standards like the Classification and Assessment of Travel Agency.
Efforts in normalizing the tourist markets must be consolidated. This may be achieved by improving the interaction between tourism supervision and administrative monitoring, and carrying out the investigation of star grade hotels, tour groups, scenic spots, and services provided by the travel agencies and tour guides.
The supervision in 2012 is needed to popularize the management standard of national tour group services. Special attention should be paid to incense burning security and holding a second national tour guide contest may improve chances of achieving goals.
The head of the supervision department of the National Tourism Administration of the People's Republic of China put emphasis on five requirements at the conference. Directors from tourism departments in eight regions including Shanghai, Hunan and Guangdong provinces presented local experience in carrying out tourism supervision. Approximately 170 people including leaders of national tourism administrations and heads of quality monitoring authorities attended this conference.
