The Jia ancient village of Xinjie town, Gao'an city, was selected as one of the eight ancient towns and villages in Jiangxi province. This is according to a list of 216 characteristic landscape tourism villages over the country announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and National Tourism Administration.
The Jia ancient village embodies a well-preserved architecture group spanning the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties with a history of 1061 years. With more than 300 historical and cultural buildings, it covers an area of over 41.33 hectares. Over 140 buildings in the Ming and Qing dynasties are preserved in good condition. As many as 119 buildings have names and room numbers.
Antithetical couplets, sculptures, paintings and calligraphy can be seen everywhere in the historic buildings. Exquisite woodcarvings and stone carvings showcase its profound cultural history. As an ancient village integrating Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, Jia village has become the modern people's paradise for leading an idyllic life.
In 2007, Jia village was named, "Rural tourism demonstration village in Jiangxi province" and "Jiangxi preserved cultural relics". It was also called China's Historical and Cultural Village by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the National Tourism Administration.
