The 2012 Jiangxi rating competition for quality tea, organized by the Jiangxi Tea Industry Association, was held in Nanchang on May 25, 2012.
As a major tea production province in China, Jiangxi has a long history of planting and growing tea leaves. The area enjoys exceptional ecological advantages with premium quality, a rich tea culture and support from the local government.
As many as 61 tea samples, including 46 green tea and 15 black tea, from 30 tea production regions were rated in the competition, with a year-on-year growth of 15.1 percent. Renowned tea and newly–developed tea varieties, along with traditional and new tea-producing methods displayed the innovation of tea products in the Jiangxi province.
Based on national standards, tea experts evaluated the tea considering five elements including shape, color, flavor, taste and the remains. All judges are divided into two groups and gave their evaluations respectively. The mean score is the final score each tea received.
Liuheyunya, a tea produced by the Qianshan Lvhe Organic Resources Co Ltd, and Wuyiyunhao, a tea produced by the Huanggangshang Organic Resources Co Ltd, won gold awards in the green tea group. Souchong black tea at Qian Mountain, also produced by the Huanggangshang Organic Resources Co Ltd was awarded the top prize in black tea group.
