The first tourism-chartered plane from Taiwan arrived at Nanchang Changbei International Airport on Aug 21. It will be followed by another 30 flights in the next few months, triggering a new wave of tourism in Jiangxi.
Jiangxi initiated a tourism promotion campaign in Taiwan in the first half of this year. It also launched a culture and scenic spots publicity event in Taiwan from Aug 19 to 25, attracting a great number of Taiwan tourists and strengthening cooperation with Taiwan.
An exhibition of Jiangxi scenery kicked off in Taipei, Taiwan on Aug 21. Jiangxi's unique folk culture and landscapes were fully displayed for Taiwan people.
Ding Yadong, chairman of the board of Jiangxi Guangda International Travel Service, said that with enhanced economic and cultural exchange between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, the number of Taiwan tourists to Jiangxi has surpassed that of Hong Kong. In 2011, Jiangxi received a total of 180,000 tourists from Taiwan.
Wang Xiaofeng, director of the Tourism Administration of Jiangxi province, said the tourism cooperation between Taiwan and Jiangxi has been thriving since 2010 as a result of Jiangxi's promotion. In January to July, the number of Taiwan tourists showed a year-on-year increase of over 70 percent, and Jiangxi tourists coming to Taiwan increased by 57 percent.
