Jilin starts eco-city project in Changchun

Luhu eco-city, which is about to receive an investment of 5 billion yuan ($816.3 million), was recently launched in Changchun, capital of Northeast China’s Jilin province.
Located in Luxiang (Deer town), a town with 300 years' history of deer breeding, the eco-city will become China’s largest deer product trading center.
According to Yang Ningyi, Party chief of Luxiang, the town has the largest stock of sika deer in Jilin and ranks top in the sales of pilose antler in the province. In addition, with trade volume of hundreds of millions of yuan, it is also the biggest deer product distribution and trading center in northern China.
Compared with deer breeding in foreign countries, China falls behind in terms of farming, product processing, packaging, research and development, and marketing channels.
The absence of large exhibiting rooms leads to limited overall and efficient branding, and without a uniform quarantine standard, the town has not made its voice heard in the whole industry.
Moreover, the lack of a trademark was the reason it failed to have its own brand.
Then, Bailuyuan, a local company, signed an agreement with the local government for a project that an industrial park dealing in deer products and the Luxiang eco-city would be built with investment from the Changchun municipal association of industry and commerce and other local chambers of commerce.
"We will finish the project in three phases, and build it into China’s first tourism eco-city featuring deer culture," said Liu Long, president of the company.
With a stock of 300,000, the first phase will contribute 2.25 billion yuan to its annual production value and 330 million yuan towards taxation. The second phase and the third phase together will reach 800,000 items, realizing an annual production of six billion yuan and taxation of 900 million yuan. Furthermore, the new business will create 50,000 new job positions.
The eco-city was officially launched this August. The trading center, one of the projects in the first phase, will open next July. With an area of 100,000 square meters and a construction area of 150,000 square meters, the trading center will have 460 booths and 400 stores.
The trading center also plans to establish an e-commerce platform which serves to expand deer product sales onto the Internet. The e-commerce platform will make the transactions convenient and timely. It will also help cut the cost a great deal.
Luhu eco-city will be completed in 2020. Upon its completion, Luxiang town will become China’s largest processing center of deer products, a global distribution and trading center, as well as a communications center of deer culture. In this way, Luhu eco-city will realize both economic and social benefits from these projects.
