At a preliminary meeting of the 2nd Session of the 12th NPC, Jiang Wei, a Jilin province People’s Congress member, suggested that the government ban the setting off of fireworks around apartment blocks or in neighborhoods, giving as a reason, "Simply because it interrupts people’s lives, particularly for those who suffer from heart problems, and the exploding fireworks are a major source for environmental pollution."
