An agricultural produce site for the Jilin province, on Taobao.com, has seen really good sales in a short period of time thanks to timely marketing practices and product quality.
The online shopping site opened in September 2014 cooperating in a deal between the Jilin Commerce Dept and the Alibaba Group with the idea of helping develop e-commerce agriculture in northeastern China, and hit two sales peaks in a short period of time last year.
Gao Yuan, head of Jilin e-business operation, explained, "We grabbed two great opportunities last year, the first on Nov 11, when we had the largest online shopping day, with total sales of 14 million yuan on the Alibaba site, and the second, on Dec 12, bringing in 23 million yuan."
The site already has 700 shops, mainly for Jilin agricultural products, according to a Jilin e-business office report, which identified the top items as rice, cereal, grains, ginseng, and edible fungus.
Gao went on to note that, "Jilin rice is a consumer favorite because of its great taste and nutrition, both of them attributable to the good environment, rich soil and sufficient sunshine."
Jack Ma, Alibaba’s chairman, in a recent trip to the region, expressed great interest in helping Jilin with its agriculture e-commerce, by using the group’s online-marketing services as a modern way to increase rural spending, employment, and incomes.
