NE China integrating regional customs procedures

Six customs offices in northeast China are cooperating closer to make clearances smoother via a new system, according to the customs office of Changchun, Jilin province, on April 26.
This allows imports and exports between Jilin, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region to have simpler procedures through the integrated system, and only one customs declaration.
According to a Changchun Customs official, Xue Yingchao, "Import and export companies only need to sign into the clearance system, it's as simple as that."
Xue went on to explain, "These companies are the major beneficiaries since it cuts logistics costs by up to 20-30 percent and it can cut the transportation time by as much as 12-24 hours."
In the past, companies had to first declare their imported goods with the port customs office then declare them again with the local customs for goods just to enter a warehouse.
Now, with this better clearance system, Jilin and the others expect to be able to be a strong force behind greater regional and foreign trade.
