Four retired workers in the city of Liaoyuan, Jilin province gained a bit of popularity recently on the Internet and on WeChat, a Chinese mobile text and voice message service developed by Tencent, thanks to their micro film The Road, according to Jilin Daily of July 20.
The report explains that the film tells a real story about an elderly man who voluntarily cleans a road in Liaoyuan and finds 30,000 yuan($4,830 dollars) on the road during his work but returns it to the person who lost it.
The people behind the micro film are Tong Xueduo, Feng Shiying, Liu Changtai and Chen Xiao'an, all in their 70s, but who decided to join in a local art troupe after they retired, with Tong as the writer, director and main actor, who explains that he gained a lot of experience from his work with the art troupe.
Tong likes looking for arty sources in daily life and heard the story of the street sweeper and decided to write a script based on it.
He shared the story with the other three men in a getting-together early this year. "Liu said he is interested in filming and has a camera. Chen told me that he can do editing and Feng can do composing while I can do lyrics writing. They all show their interest in making a micro film based on the script", Tong said, "then we decided to start".
They completed the micro film in only half a month with only one camera and a laptop and are already thinking about another film and will use the experience they gained from The Road to their advantage in the new one.
