The city of Changchun, in Jilin province is exploring ways to increase cooperation between colleges and local villages and to turn students' knowledge into rural development, according to a Xinhua report of Oct 21, which explains that this is intended to solve the problem of a lack labor and technology that rural areas are facing and to promote rural smart construction.
Last year, Changchun University and the village of Shuanghe started their cooperation program and by now the university has donated 24 computers to the village, built a computer room for it, taught villagers computer skills, and established an information service center.
In explaining the development, Dang Guangming, the village Party secretary, says, "The information center helps save us the trouble of going a long way into town to find help whenever we have problems. Now, just a click of the mouse does it."
Adding to this, Dong Bo from the Organization Department of Jilin Party Committee, says, "Colleges have the knowledge and technology that are just what the village really needs. Next we'll develop rural tourism in line with a plan the college made for the village."
Looked at from another angle, the head of Changchun University's Youth League, Xu Min, explains, "The cooperation not only helps the village, it helps cultivate students’ innovation and make them more enterprising and capable."
